Creative Sewing Workshops

Are you interested in hosting a workshop? If you have a fabric store with the room and machines to host a workshop, or you just want to get a group of friends together to host Mary for a weekend workshop - check out the group classes described below! Mary has held a variety of workshops at Josephine’s Dry Goods in Portland, OR and at The Lower East Side Girls Club in Manhattan, NYC, accommodating a wide range of ages and abilities.

Cost per student is based on a number of factors including the type of workshop you’d like to host, the number of students participating in the workshop and the location where the workshop would take place. If Mary would be traveling outside of Manhattan, travel time and expenses will need to be taken into consideration when calculating the cost per student.

“My Bag of Tricks”
This is a hands-on workshop that is focused on learning the creative techniques that Mary developed in her own work throughout her career. Following closely along the lines in her book Mary will demonstrate the techniques she discusses in The Party Dress Book. As a class we will discuss and explore how to put a creative spin on traditional sewing techniques and then apply them to our own work: layering color, piecing, bias strips, quilting, pin tucks, ruffles and French seams. These creative techniques make a great addition to your own sewing vocabulary!

Fabulous Party Dress Workshop

Mary will guide you through the making of your very own party dress! Using the pattern from her book Mary will advise you on choosing fabric, the layering of color, combining prints and creating textures. Furthermore, in this class you will learn how utilizing different creative techniques can make your party dress uniquely yours. Intermediate sewing skills are needed for this class. One dress per person please.
